Until such time the main campus comes up, the University is operating out of an interim campus in Rajgir, which has been made available by the Bihar State Government. This 4.5 acres campus is surrounded by lush greenery and consists of a large building in the front, which serves as the academic hub – housing all the academic offices, classrooms and the library.
Nalanda University is envisaged as the campus of the future. The Master Plan of the Campus adopts sustainable methods to achieve social and economic integration with the local communities. The plan aims to combine state-of-the art technologies with planning principles of erstwhile Nalanda University to create a carbon-neutral and zero waste campus.
The University regularly holds lectures and other academic as well as social events on and off campus. Press releases are issued for all major announcements. The University also brings out a monthly e-newsletter that captures major developments related to the University.
The University has a number of student clubs and societies to keep the close knit community involved in creative pursuits. Students can get involved in activities of their interest. There are opportunities for sports, dramatics, creative writing , painting and other interests that keep the student community engaged,
In and around the Nalanda University site and interim campus are many interesting places to visit or hangout. The parks provide a quiet and serene atmosphere. The walkways are witness to many an enthusiastic group of students debating politics or simply discussing the recent books they have read.
From supporting the weavers of Nepura and Baswan Bigha, to sourcing our food from local farms, we reach out to the neighbouring villages in many ways. These plans will expand with time to include energy generation from waste and programmes that connect local weavers and farmers to the world.
