India-China Delegates Interact on Relations in the New Era in Meet Hosted by Nalanda University

Nalanda University hosted the fifth Dialogue on ‘India-China relations in the new era’ on 2 nd August. This was a collaboration of Nalanda University and India Foundation, a national level think tank located in Delhi. 

Around 30 delegates including International Affairs experts from Fudan University and Shanghai International University from China participated in the Interaction apart from scholars, policy makers, experts from India attended the dialogue.

Honourable Vice Chancellor of Nalanda University, Professor Sunaina Singh, welcomed the delegates and emphasised the role of Nalanda University in continuing the traditional civilizational exchange in Asia in general, and China in particular. She asserted that Nalanda is set to play a key role in promoting collaboration and cooperation among the two great Asian civilizations.

Major General Dhruv C Katoch of India Foundation has given the introductory remarks and explained the motivation behind starting this dialogue initiative. He stated that, ancient Nalanda University acted as a knowledge hub and promoted a shared understanding of humanity. This platform should be used to discuss and deliberate upon the shared concerns and challenges both the countries are facing in the contemporary world.

Professor Zhang Jiadong of Fudan University, China while delivering the special address stated that India and China are the rising economies and they have a great future. To harness the benefits of growing strong together, the two countries should change their mind set towards each other. He further asserted that the idea of Nalanda and its legacy is highly valued in China and it can act as a bridge to start more cooperation between the two countries.

Shree Ram Madhav of India Foundation delivered the keynote address and asserted that these two countries are not mere countries but great civilizations and there has been an ancient cultural, trade and knowledge relationship between them. In the contemporary world, the two countries are fighting global challenges together. This initiative should be viewed as an exercise to overcome the trust deficit between the two countries. The shared future for the two countries was expressed in the following words by Shree Ram Madhav, coming together is the beginning, living together is the progress and working together is the success. The two countries should strive for working together to address the regional and global issues.
