Osaka University’s Professor Emeritus and Padma Shri Award winner for Literature & Education, Dr. Tomio Mizokami visited Nalanda University on 21 st August, 2018 to see for himself the avant-garde University in its new avatar. He met with the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Nalanda University, Prof. Sunaina Singh and interacted with her to get to know more about the University and its courses.
He said that he had visited the ancient Nalanda University three decades ago and was pleasantly surprised to hear that a new University has come up to revive the ancient one. Ever since, he has been intending to visit the Nalanda University and know more about its current structure and courses taught. After the interaction with the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sunaina Singh he expressed happiness at the way the University was shaping up. He visited the sprawling upcoming campus to see for himself the rapid progress in the construction activity also. Prof. Sunaina Singh said she was happy to receive an accomplished professor of Dr. Mizokami’s stature and acquaint him with the Nalanda University. She said the Professor expressed keen interest in the University and was very happy to know that it was tuned to the 21 st century while upholding the values of ancient Nalanda.
Prof. Mizokami is a Japanese national who has given nearly 50 years of his life to learn, research and teach Hindi in India and Japan. He is currently the President of Kansai Japan – India Cultural Society, an organization to further friendship between the two countries. He is visiting India upon the invitation of the President of India and travelled to Bihar on a three day visit to the State.
