Korean Professor Makes a Personal Donation to Nalanda University

Nalanda University has received a personal donation of US$11,535 from Professor Pyong-Rae Lee for establishing a Scholarship Fund for students at the School of Buddhist Studies, Philosophy and Comparative Religions at Nalanda University.

Professor Pyong-Rae Lee studied Buddhist Studies at Dongguk University Seoul for his undergraduate degree and received M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Buddhist Philosophy from Komazawa University, Japan. He worked as a professor of philosophy at Chungnam University, South Korea until his retirement in 2006. He also lived in India for two years as a visiting Professor in Korean Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

Talking about this donation Professor Pankaj Mohan, the Interim Vice Chancellor and Dean of the School of Historical Studies who facilitated this donation said, “Professor Pyong-Rae Lee Scholarship will be awarded annually at the beginning of the semester, to a current student from a developing country at the School of Buddhist Studies, Philosophy and Comparative Religions.”

The Financial Assistance Committee at the University will award the Scholarship based on merit and/or financial constraints. The fund will exist in perpetuity with the interest accrued or annual earnings being made available for scholarship.
